It’s book club time ladies and gents. As you probably know by now, each month we are choosing a book we’d love for everyone to read along with us. Weekly chapter goals will be set out below, and all month you can join the online discussion using the hashtag #AEBookClub as we hop on our high horses and provide our opinions on each book’s movie potential.
For the month of May, Sean Fallon has chosen The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. Rather than us describe it we’ll let the book do the work for us:
It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive. There is primal horror here, and menace unleashed – within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it.
His only defense is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is an ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.
Just like last month, The Ocean at the End of the Lane’s chapters will be divided into sections, so all readers can follow along week by week. The schedule is as follows:
May 4-7: Chapters 1-4
May 8-14: Chapters 5-8
May 15-21: Chapters 8-12
May 22-31: Chapters 12-15

Good luck and happy reading!
