AE Monthly Book Club: September 2016
With Stranger Things off our screens for another year, where are you going to get your fix of 80’s genre fiction made in the 21st century? Well, as usual, Sean Fallon has your back.
September’s AE Book Club book is Grady Hendrix’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism, the story of two high schooler best friends, one of whom must try and save the other when she becomes possessed. The publisher’s description reads:
Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. Through the years, they have bonded over E.T., roller-skating, and a shared love for pop music. But when they arrive at high school, things change. Gretchen begins to act . . . different. As the strange coincidences and bizarre behavior start to pile up, Abby realizes there’s only one possible explanation: Gretchen, her favorite person in the world, has a demon living inside her. And Abby is not about to let anyone or anything come between her and her best friend. With help from some unlikely allies, Abby embarks on a quest to save Gretchen. But is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?
Essentially, it’s The Exorcist if Regan were a member of the Heathers. If that doesn’t get you hyped for this book, then you have come to the wrong place, and you need to leave.
The book is 330 pages long so we should all aim for 83 pages a week.
Week one: 1 – 83
Week two: 84 – 167
Week three: 168 – 250
Week four: 250 – The End
As with August’s book, there will be daily Twitter polls and a chance to join the conversation with the hashtag #AEBookClub. Grady Hendrix can be found on twitter at @Grady_Hendrix so if you’re loving the book, let him know.
