Tomorrow, our first-ever collection of AE ghost stories comes out just in time for the somewhat arbitrary Friday the 13th kickoff. I hope you’ll take a look. We’ll have new installments coming out every Friday until Halloween.
But you came here for more literal scares. Here are some of the best in true crime links this week:
Season 3 of BuzzFeed’s Unsolved Supernatural series debuts on YouTube tomorrow, but you can get a sneak preview today. This season takes on an abandoned and allegedly haunted hospital, Roswell, the London Tombs.
Ben Stiller is directing a multi-part series for Showtime documenting the 2015 escape and resulting manhunt of two convicted murderers from a New York correctional facility. It stars Paul Dano, Patricia Arquette, and Benicio Del Toro and is set to air in 2018.
The trial of Quentin Tellis, accused in the murder of Jessica Chambers, began earlier this week. You might recall the particularly brutal case from the terrific BuzzFeed story last year that detailed the lengths to which internet sleuths were going in an attempt to solve the case. If you haven’t yet read that, piece, fix that now.
Over on LitHub, Kate Winkler Dawson shared “The Perils of Parenting as a True Crime Author.”
If it’s something you’re considering, why not go the extra mile?
Finally, some reads:
- The Confessions of Cleveland Bynum
- Justice for Danny
- The Man Who Forgot He Was a Rapper
- They Thought They Were Going to Rehab, They Ended Up in Chicken Plants
- Eight Calls to the Police Couldn’t Prevent Her Murder
Finally, if you’re in need of some escapism, how about the Longform Guide to Being Lost at Sea (aren’t we all)? Oh, and one quick mea culpa before I go: I was wrong about American Vandal. The dick jokes are very good.
