Netflix released the trailer for their latest original film, Adam Wingard’s Death Note, along with a filmmaker featurette.
Based on the popular anime, itself based on the popular manga, Death Note looks to be a genre hybrid, which previously worked well for Wingard’s with his 2014 film, The Guest. Death Note also sees a return to the neon aesthetic that made that film such a beauty to look at. While Wingard’s films have struggled theatrically, despite gaining a cult following, Death Note could be his first major hit and perhaps lead to a further partnership with Netflix in the vein of his horror contemporary, Mike Flanagan. It’s a bold new world for contemporary horror fans.
Death Note claims Netflix on August 25th.
