Captain America: Civil War has a lot to live up to. After The Winter Soldier, arguably the best Marvel movie to date, how do you go bigger than taking on SHIELD? You get more personal and continue the weighty threads found in the Captain America movies along with the stepping stones set in place by Age of Ultron. SHIELD is gone, and the Avengers find themselves in a, “Who watches the watchmen,” situation. I guess that’s what happens when one member creates a genocidal robot hellbent on turning the world against a global peace keeping force. Love it or hate it, Ultron wholly succeeds in shining lights on the flaws of earth’s mightiest heroes.

This trailer delivers just enough goods to get people invested. The somber mood trails over the 2.25 minute proceedings, picking up the exact tone I hoped for post-Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron. There’s no clear cut victory in the aftermath of this fight. We get some glimpses of Black Panther kicking serious ass, an injured Rhodey, and Cap’s new team. It’s like watching your relatives fight during the holidays. Perfect for Thanksgiving week.

If there’s any minor flaw, it’s the lack of a money shot. That’s irrelevant when a trailer is focusing on the character stories we’ve come to know and love. In place of a helicarrier falling out of the sky, we end on a rough breakup between Iron Man and Cap. As All-American Steve Rogers explains his reasoning for standing up against Iron Man, the man within the suit heartbreakingly replies he was his friend once too. Then Steve Rogers and his rekindled lover Bucky Barnes tag team and beat the shit out of him.
