A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket is a terrible, awful book series about a trio of wretched orphans who fall into the clutches of a diabolical criminal mastermind, Count Olaf.
Netflix have foolishly decided that they want to make a TV series of these books with a cast of actors who I assumed were kidnapped and forced to do it like Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton, Joan Cusack, and Aasif Mandvi. The whole torrid affair will be directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and written by the official representative for Mr. Snicket, poor Daniel Handler (another hard done by soul who was probably press-ganged into service on this doomed venture).
If you have the stomach for it there have been two teasers released for this sorry endeavor. Watch them and heed Lemony Snicket’s warning to flee, or cast your eyes upon the villainous Count Olaf yourself and then run away and watch something more wholesome like The Luckiest Kids in the World: The Pony Party, a lovely story about a fictional version of the world where everything is fine and everything turns out great.
You have been warned.
A Series of Unfortunate Events will be released on January 13, 2017 on Netflix.
