Universal unveiled a new trailer for F. Gary Gray’s The Fate of the Furious.

Well this franchise certainly isn’t backing away from its absurdity or its overuse of the word family. Story-wise, there looks to be some interesting developments (retconning Charlize Theron’s character into the narrative for one), and writer Chris Morgan has developed the relationships between these characters in a way that we’ve grown to care about them, and their ridiculous personas. On the directing side, this is F. Gary Gray’s first blockbuster and the film’s visuals look to be a step away from the goregeous global scenery that Justin Lin delivered. The Fate of the Furious is not bad looking, but the visual palette right now could be described as concrete. Some of the CGI in this trailer looks pretty rough too, but we’re hoping that the franchise continues the upswing of quality it’s been on since installment five. After all, we’re going to be getting about twelve more of these movies.

The Fate of the Furious races into theaters on April 14th!
