When you have a library of films as prolific as Pixar’s, when Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles all come out back-to-back, how can we deny attempts at making in-house studio sequels the norm? Two of the above movies already have sequels with another one on the Pixar docket. The next movie on Pixar’s roster after the aforementioned slate is Cars which has a sequel everyone can agree is low-tier even when you don’t compare it to its big brother movies. Where will Finding Dory fit in? Judging by the trailer, we’re in for a nice return to the world beyond the sea.
Finding Dory doesn’t look to be a movie so much about literally finding a lost Dory as it is discovering who Dory is and where she comes from. It’s a spiritual and emotional journey for a character who never felt home until she met Marlin and Nemo. Personally this feels more like the concept of a really strong Pixar short film.
