Here’s the first trailer for Andres Muschietti’s adaptation of IT!

The trailer for IT¬†certainly delivers its fair share of chills, particularily for those who suffer from coulrophobia (a fear of clowns). The adaptation has taken so long to happen, and given the spotty history of King’s adaptations, I think everyone is rightly on edge about how one his greatest and most popular works will be delivered, but it looks like Muschietti has a strong handle on the material. Despite some changes, most notably the change of period from the 50s to the 80s, the film looks like it’s staying true to the spirit of the source material (we even get glimpses of one of IT’s other guises, the werewolf). It’s also nice to see a sizeable production budget given to a horror film, something we rarely see outside of The Conjuring films. Like those films, IT has all the makings of being a blockbuster sized horror hit that will bring in horror fans of all ages and those both familar and unfamilar with the novel. IT‘s one of our most antcipated films of the year, and if manages to find the strength of character and the honest exploration of childhood horror that King found, then it could very well be one of the best films of the year.

IT crawls into theaters on September 8th, 2017.
