After months of anticipation and a seemingly baffling decision by 20th Century Fox not to come to this year’s San Diego Comic Con, we finally have our first look at Hugh Jackman’s last turn as the iconic mutant Wolverine in Logan from director James Mangold. Check out the first official teaser trailer below:
And for a few more snippets of footage and an R-rated bit, check out the international trailer below:
Damn! This was worth the wait. The promise of the Wolverine movie fans have always wanted was almost achieved with The Wolverine, but Logan looks to make good, no great, on that promise. Mangold returns to his comfort zone with this post-apocalyptic western, that looks like it could be a high-point in the X-franchise. Just try to hold back the chills once the chorus of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” kicks in.
Old Man Logan, a withered Professor X, and X-23 are up against the cybernetic Reavers led by Boyd Holbrook. With an R-rating, a score by Cliff Martinez, and screenplay co-written by the guy behind the upcoming Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049, Logan is sure be an impactful conclusion to Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart’s time as these characters, and a fitting bookend to this chapter of the X-Men franchise.
Logan will cut his way into theaters in the U.S. on March 3, 2017.
