James Wan has been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. as the director of Aquaman in 2018. This will be Wan’s second foray into blockbuster filmmaking following his time with Furious 7. Rumors had Wan exhausted from the shoot following the passing of Paul Walker with some suggesting Wan might return to smaller movies for good given his rough time. His box office pull and sleek action direction make him a worthy choice to take on the king of Atlantis *insert James Cameron Entourage Aquaman joke.*
Wan will also direct The Conjuring 2 which shoots this fall and Robotech for Sony at an unspecified time. Robotech might have to wait for post-Aquaman to see the light of day since I don’t see Wan having time to do 3 movies in such a small time period. It’s not impossible, I just wouldn’t hold my breath.
Jason Mamoa will be starring as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, the king of Atlantis, and little else is known about the project. Probably because DC has no head honcho but I don’t want to put words in people’s mouths. I’ll just put them into your eyeballs as you read this. What we do know is Mamoa is filming a cameo for BvS (I’m not typing out the stupid title) before doubling down with the rest of the DC cast in the two-part Justice League films being released in 2017 and 2019 (why???).
300 writer Kurt Johnstadt will work with Wan on the script during pre-production.
