You know what day it is! It’s Thinkpiece Eve for filmgoers!

It’s also Oscar night, the evening of the most prestigious ceremony in the American film industry. We’ve weathered all the scuffles and odds and all of the internet shame for enjoying Oscar season, and here we are.

I, for one, admittedly enjoy and actively engage with Award Season, and particularly The Oscars. I view the Academy Awards the same way I view other industry awards– as less of a competition and more of an effort to historically elevate and preserve what we see as the best of our contemporary culture, an effort to engrave what we see as the best current selves as a film culture and surrounding society for future reference. So yeah, I have some favorites tonight, but I’m excited for the festivities in any event. But I’m happy just to watch it play out.

Currently, the stars are on the red carpet at Dolby theater in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel is set to host with whispers of early help from Justin Timberlake.

You can watch the ceremony live on ABC starting at 8:30. We’ll be live-updating the winners here as the night goes along, and you can follow and engage our staff on Twitter (if you’re on a web browser, we’re over there on the right >).

Enjoy the evening and thanks once again for making us a part of your Awards Season!
