Yes. We’re in. Sold. Let’s do it. Release it this week.
Today, after we coincidentally published this appreciation of his last film, M. Night Shyamalan announced that Universal Pictures will be moving ahead with production of Glass, a direct sequel to Unbreakable and Split.
There are no shortage of reasons that I am crap-my-pants excited. This out-of-nowhere blue collar superhero/supervillain universe, fifteen unexpected years in the making, is one of the most exciting projects in film already. Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Anya Taylor Joy will be returning as their iconic characters. And M. Night Shyamalan will finally, once again, be releasing a film on a hot streak, free of the “Will this be his end?” shroud of crap that’s surrounded recent projects. (Remember: He’s always been great.)
Hopefully, the new film will see him continue exciting themes and narratives.
From the visionary filmmaker’s Twitter today:
