WARNING: The latest Terminator Genisys trailer doesn’t hold back spoiling key plot elements. In what must surely be an effort to convince audiences that the latest Terminator isn’t simply a remake of the first and second films, Paramount’s marketing team basically decided to reveal the whole movie. The trailer puts more focus on Sarah Connor, tries for some moments of levity and (SPOILERS) reveals that John Connor has been transformed into a new kind of Terminator (a plot element that was cut from the original ending of Salvation). While I’m a huge Terminator fan, I’ve got to admit that I’m still not convinced this will be a good movie. Despite adding new twists to the mythos, Genisys still looks too beholden to fan service and absurd action sequences. On top of that, the special effects somehow look weaker than what James Cameron was working with in 1991. Given that the new film is the first of a proposed trilogy, I hope I’m wrong and Genisys still has some surprises left up its sleeve. But right now I’m just not seeing it.

Terminator Genisys hits theaters on the prime release date of July 1st.
