Fall movie season is here, and there are several intriguing film options in theaters. Unfortunately, that means dealing with cold temperatures and holiday season crowds. If you need a break from the weekly theater grind, then maybe an On Demand offering can satisfy that movie fix instead. We’ve got you covered with our AE On Demand Movie Guide for October 2015:

The Primary Instinct

The Primary Instinct

FilmBuff

We start with this month’s gem, The Primary Instinct. Stephen Tobolowsky takes the stage at Seattle’s Moore Theater and delivers a series of touching stories. The Primary Instinct is an adaptation of The Tobolowsky Files podcast and features all of its wonderful qualities with the added spectacle of Tobo screen time. Tobolowsky is a true master storyteller and the film receives my highest recommendation. The Primary Instinct is currently available to rent on iTunes, Vudu, and Xbox Video starting at $4.99.

Finders Keepers

Finders Keepers

The Orchard

Finders Keepers has a peculiar subject matter but uses a strong balance of comedy and tragedy to tell a genuine, emotional story. The movie takes the time to find the intricacies and humanity in its two main subjects who are in a custody battle over an amputated leg. Finders Keepers is currently available to rent with select cable and satellite providers, Amazon, and iTunes starting at $6.99.

Cooties

Cooties

Lionsgate Premiere

Cooties is a horror-comedy centered mostly around one ongoing joke, but becomes more than the sum of its parts with its fun-filled approach and twitchy action. The film blends an ensemble cast and a goofy, gory tone, with a child army infected by a chicken nugget virus. Sounds fun. Cooties is currently available to rent with select cable and satellite providers and iTunes starting at $6.99.

Deathgasm

Deathgasm

Dark Sky Films

The phrase “buckets of blood” is always intriguing at this time of year, right? Deathgasm offers this, heavy metal, demons, and much more. Friends Brodie and Zakk team up to form a band and mistakenly start demonic chaos with their music, but beneath this gory surface the film does offer up some heart and sentimentality. Deathgasm is currently available to rent with select cable and satellite providers, Amazon, and iTunes starting at $6.99.

Tales of Halloween

Tales of Halloween

Epic Pictures

Tales of Halloween captures the essence of its holiday namesake with an anthology of ten horror shorts. Presented from ten different directors, the shorts show range in quality and a unique side to each director’s mindset viewers may not normally see in their features. Tales of Halloween is currently available to rent with select cable and satellite providers and iTunes starting at $6.99.

Manson Family Vacation

Screen Shot 2015-10-17 at 7.45.01 PM

Netflix

Familial bonding with the Charles Manson murder sites as the catalyst and backdrop? That is totally normal. Manson Family Vacation features this odd scenario produced by Jay and Mark Duplass. Despite the oddities the movie offers interesting character progression and soul. Manson Family Vacation is currently available to rent on Amazon and iTunes starting at $3.99.

The Final Girls

The Final Girls

Stage 6 Films/Vertical Entertainment

Our final movie this month is The Final Girls. The film is a good example of meta-horror humor as the daughter of a scream queen gets trapped in the slasher film her mother starred in. The Final Girls is a fun and thoughtful look at meta-horror and is a great option to watch this Halloween! It is currently available to rent with select cable and satellite providers, Amazon, and iTunes starting at $6.99.
