Movie Podcast of the Week
The Time Travel Trio
In each episode hosts Jenn, Matt, and Hyde focus on a single movie that is about time travel or uses time travel in its story. They look at each movie at face value on their quality as a movie, their quality as a time travel story, and how time travel is used.
Time travel movie rules differ from movie to movie so it’s interesting to see how each movie tackles this concept. Some go for the you can change the past route, in others everything is predetermined, and in others the filmmakers are making it up as they go.
The hosts are fun, knowledgeable and passionate about movies and time travel so they are great to hang out with as they talk about one of my favourite genres of movie.
Where to Begin: Episode one is about Back to the Future, so why not start with the best?
Non-Movie Podcast of the Week
First off, until I listened to More Perfect I had zero interest in the US Supreme Court. I am English, and I live in Australia so the Supreme Court was an abstract thing from across the sea. I knew that it existed and some of its function, but I would imagine it being of similar interest to me as the UK House of Lords is to any of the American writers on this site.
What I do know is that I love Radiolab. So when they announced a spin off that would focus upon landmark Supreme Court cases and their history and ramifications, I trusted host Jad Abumrad and I checked it out. It’s probably no surprise since it’s featured here, but I love it. Radiolab is always at the forefront of presenting incredible stories in easily digestible, entertaining ways, and they keep that up for More Perfect.
Each episode focuses on a Supreme Court case, or a couple of cases, and goes into a level of detail that should make your head spin but never feels overwhelming. If you’re a complete novice about the court then this is a great place to learn, and if you’re a huge fan of the law then you should probably be listening to this already.
Where to Begin: From the start. This podcast grabs you immediately and doesn’t let go.
