Movie Podcast of the Week
The Star Wars Minute
Readers of these pages will know of my utter and all-encompassing love of Star Wars. However, at some point in every fandom you realise that, no matter the extent of your love for something, there’s always going to be people more into something that you are.
Pete the Retailer and Alex Robinson of the Star Wars Minute are those people. The Star Wars Minute has been running since 2013 with each episode dedicated to a single minute of Star Wars (and later its sequels/prequels).
The boys are that sweet spot of being superfans without being self-righteous dickheads. They’re full of jokes, tidbits, facts, trivia, and a healthy mix of respect and irreverence towards their subject.
Where to Begin: The first minute.
Non-Movie Podcast of the Week
Hrishikesh Hirway’s Song Exploder is dedicated to that idea and to discussion of the creative process. Each episode features a different song and has the creators break it down layer by layer revealing the meaning behind choices of instruments, hidden sounds, and the process of having an idea and turning it into a complete piece of music.
Where to Begin: Have a look at the songs on offer and pick a favourite. I started with the BoJack Horseman theme tune and then went back to the start to listen to everything.
