Podcasts are awesome (especially From First to Last) and each week sees brand new, fantastic shows appearing, demanding to be fed into your ears. How do you decide what to listen to and what to ignore? Not to worry, Audiences Everywhere has you covered. Each week we’ll give our picks for the best podcasts you should be listening to about movies (and other things) so you don’t have to make any more hard podcast decisions ever again.
Movie Podcast of the Week
Ever watch a movie or TV show and afterwards you and your friends sit around and discuss how you it could have been better? Then Movie Maintenance might be the podcast you’ve been searching for without realising.
Hosted by Gabe, Sean, Thomas, and Handsome Tom, Movie Maintenance is heady mix of reviews, criticism, and fanfic. Each episode sees the gang choose something they think could be improved then has them discuss what works and what doesn’t with the movie or show, before finally offering us their version that hopefully fixes the mistakes.
The incredible thing about this podcast is that it never comes across as unbearably smug and the hosts aren’t know-it-alls. These are fans like you or me who want the best from their TV and movies, and who are going to create better versions of what the studios couldn’t—if only hypothetically.
Where to Begin: I got into this podcast when I saw they did an episode about Sherlock. If, like me, the fourth season left you cold then you’ll get a lot out of starting with that one.
Non-Movie Podcast of the Week
The world of critic book criticism is one fraught with, well, danger is a strong word but it can be an unpleasant place to be. Of course, delve into any medium’s criticism and you’re going to find snakes but, in the past comic books (and now comic book movies), have always been relied on to cause beef and incite people into furious arguments about flying men in their underwear.
What’s sorely needed in this conversation is reasoned, interesting discussion that gets into the stuff below the surface on the subject being reviewed and is done by people who know their shit. That’s why I love Dueling Review, a podcast from the Major Spoilers network.
Hosted by Stephen and Matthew, Dueling Review looks as though it could be two fans just arguing for an hour but instead it is a great place to see new issues of series you love or hate get dissected and discussed with maturity and intelligence, rather than with snark and negativity.
Where to Begin: See what’s new and dive in.
