Audiences Everywhere is saddened by the passing of Pulitzer-winning playwright, screenwriter, poet, and actor Sam Shepard at his home in Kentucky. The stage and screen would not be what it is today without him, and we suspect it will forever feel this loss. In the meantime, we’re comforted by his lifetime’s impressive output of creative work, including his Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Buried Child, and unforgettable roles in The Right Stuff, Days of Heaven, The Notebook, Mud, and for all of his contributions in screenwriting. AE most recently looked at Paris, Texas once again. As with anything Shepard touched, it was worth that second look (and many more).
Rest in Peace, Sam, and thank you for everything.
