Oh boy. What a week to be a Star Wars fan. The Force Awakens hit blu-ray players across the nation and we all cried tears of joy. Now Gareth Edwards takes us back to the darkest time in the galaxy with a look at the story behind the rebel team who stole the schematics for the original Death Star that led to the defeat of the Empire.
Felicity Jones is an international treasure and now she’s an inter-galactic treasure as she appears to be some sort of rebellious rebel (no, really, watch the trailer) who rebels too much? It’s a little unclear. There’s not a whole lot of information on display here. It’s mostly just a wide cinematic scope of Gareth Edwards’ keen visual eye.
While The Force Awakens took us back to familiar locations (desert, forest, tundra) Rogue One looks to show us new locations like beaches, rebel bases, and a giant space station- oh. Well they’re a little familiar here too but come on, just look at the cinematography. In a time when blockbusters tend to play a little on the safe side with television quality photography, at least we can count on Star Wars to continue presenting us with cinematic grandeur. And if you’re wondering why Edwards, the man who directed to back-to-back monster movies was the first one hired for a Star Wars spin-off, check out this shot.
People were mixed on Godzilla but I personally found it to be a power testament to nature. Will Edwards bring the same division with his Star Wars film? It doesn’t matter. He’ll probably knock it out of the park when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 2016.
