If everything goes well, Warcraft, directed by Duncan Jones of Moon fame, is going to change the face of video game movies. One, because it will probably be the first good video game movie, and two, because of the motion capture work done by the cast is on par with work in the Planet of the Apes franchise reboot. The world of Warcraft is prototypically ripe with comparisons to Lord of the Rings, but still engages in its own distinct take on familiar Midde-Earthian style and mythology, featuring characters whose motivations are unique enough to, hopefully, draw audiences to the franchise.
As for the poster, it’s cool just to see these characters in live action, with Ogrim Doomhammer and Anduil Lothar, played by Rob Kazinsky and Travis Fimmel, respectively. In game, they’re the leaders of their respective Horde and Alliance sides of the conflict in Azeroth, which should be more than awesome to see in live-action and on the big screen.
Here’s the poster, courtesy of the official Warcraft twitter account, with the first trailer set to drop this Friday, November 6th, 2015. and opens in theaters June 10, 2016.
