Blu-ray/DVD’s I’ll Check Out:

Big Hero 6

I saw Big Hero 6 when it was released in theaters, but is not going to stop me from buying a copy for myself. A young robotics genius with a personal care robot and some friends defend the city of San Fransokyo from a villain with his own robotic minions. Baymax, whether we care to recognize it or not, is the friend and companion we hope to find during our deepest moments of torment. He is also capable of becoming a kick-ass martial arts fighting machine, with the correct memory card that is. This has easily become one of my favorite Disney movies, alongside The Princess and the Frog, by finding value in intellect and hard-work.

Whiplash

I remember when Beth tweeted out her daring venture into a sketchy neighborhood to watch this film and came out of it blown away.  If she can risk her life (I do not think her life was at risk) I surely can pick this up on DVD or even stream it online if I am feeling particularly lazy. I watched the trailer without audio. I don’t know why I did that, but I felt like I needed to. Without sound, I could still feel the intensity, the rise and fall of triumphs and defeats. I have a vague idea of what the film is about, and I was moved enough without sound, but I would rather hear the film in its entirety instead of a snippet.

Netflix Movie I’ll Check Out:

A Thousand Times Good Night

A Thousand Times Good Night, Nordisk Film Distribution, 2013

I have taken to reading news articles as part of my daily routine. I know people who purposely avoid news because it is depressing and yes, there is the argument of what the media wants us to see. However, to me, it is another reason to be grateful for what I have and to be mindful of how my actions can contribute to something greater. A Thousand Times Good Night focuses on the person capturing images in war-torn countries and the constant danger that is ever-present. I am not familiar with the director or the actors. I only anticipate being offered an alternative perspective and the internal conflicts of a mother.
