Movie I’m Excited to See (Again)
Forrest Gump

It’s another really rough week for new releases, as you’ll see below, so perhaps the most exciting theater-going event this weekend will be the limited re-release of Forrest Gump, a movie that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.  I can’t say whether there’s a correlation or not, but as the general critical darling status of this movie has fallen, so has the frequency of my rewatches.  I used to sit through this whole movie (with commercials) every time it was a Turner network.  There’s just an accessible goodness to it.  However, it almost feels disheartening to realize that nostalgia now informs my opinion of a movie that is still such a sturdy guidepost in my movie-loving development, that it it still feels sorta new.  The first time I read that the movie was turning twenty, it felt like something jumped up and bit me… in the heart.  I’ll be interested to see how the quality of the movie measures in the face of the age.
