Movie I will be Watching:

Ouija

Anyone who knows me, knows I fear horror movies. For the sake of Halloween, I thought: “One couldn’t hurt.” The last time I watched a horror movie in the theater, I “slept” with all the lights on in a shielded cocoon of blankets. Once I saw the words “Based on a…”, and searched “Ouija” in my search bar, I was done. Needless to say, I will not be doing any further research. One trailer is enough to chill me, but not terrify me enough to discourage me from watching it in the theater. Let’s see if Ouija is enough to scare the criticism out of me.

My Prediction: 2 out of 5

Movies I am Looking Forward To:

Stonehearst Asylum

stonehearst-asylum

Thrillers, I can handle thrillers. Stonehearst Asylum is based on Edgar Allen Poe’s short story, “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether”. After finding out where the story originated, I was intrigued. It was a reminder of a different short story of his “The Masque of Red Death,” with the common factor being illness, of the body and now the mind. When I first read the plot of the movie, I immediately thought of Shutter Island, the story of obsession in an asylum? Some parallel lines there. I am a fan of plot-twists; I want to see how this story unravels.

My Prediction: 4 out of 5

The Heart Machine

The Heart Machine is representative of new relationships formed via the internet. It is easier than ever to find someone with similar interests, to find a friend, perhaps someone to love. This film seems like a redux of the mockumentary, Catfish, with the level of intensity tripled. As short as the trailer was, the sense of paranoia and suspicion could be felt: everything could feel real, but it only takes one inconsistency for the red flags and questions to be raised.

My Prediction: 3 out of 5
