They’re not back again. If you are a loyal reader to “What We’re Watching,” the previous sentence will make more sense. Miss Chelse and I are taking over for future What We’re Watching updates. This week, I will be giving you the low-down on anything movie-release-oriented, from theatrical and DVD releases to what’s NoN (New on Netflix). That being said, bear with me as I attempt to gain a sense of what works and what is just a no-no. Leggo!
Movies I’m Looking Forward To:
Lucy
On a rare occasion, a movie stirs me enough to return to the theater and watch in the gloriousness of a 30 foot by 70 foot screen with booming surround sound. (Is that taboo to say in this community?) Lucy is one of those rarities. I find Scarlett Johansson’s performances as an actress to be consistently on point and I have no doubts that she has the ability to take this action, with hint of sci-fi, movie and knock Hercules from the box office pedestal (yeah, I said it). The second factor in wooing me to the theater: Morgan Freeman. No explanation is necessary. Perhaps the editors and Diego would like more substance? Fine. Freeman provides a thought-provoking, existential counter-weight (Come on, he was Nelson Mandela and God – TWICE) to Johannson’s Fifth Element-esque persona.
Hercules
Next to Beowulf, Hercules ranks among the top of my list mythological heroes. I do not expect Hercules to be in the accompaniment of his faithful side-kick, Pegasus. However, I do anticipate a decent adventure entailing solid battles with mythic beasts and proving the Gods wrong. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s acting is not earth-shattering by any means, the combination of how the movie develops, how “action-packed” the fight scenes are, and the ability to mix in some comedic moments can make this worth the two hours.

NoN (New on Netflix): Usually Netflix is my hot date on Friday nights, but this week I plan on bailing. Nothing worth noting unless you are a fan of Tim Allen in Christmas with the Kranks.
