Movies I am Looking Forward To:

When the Game Stands Tall

I am a Remember the Titans fan. However, I can easily anticipate this scenario: Instead of Remember the Titans, watch When the Game Stands Tall, an addition to the Watch this Instead! feature. Now, I am not much of a football fan, (Yes, the Seahawks won the last Super Bowl. No, that does not mean I am going to jump on the bandwagon.) but there’s something about football movies. We have seen time and time again, a team of underdogs defying expectations, strengthening their camaraderie, and kicking the behinds of their opponent. When the Game Stands Tall offers a refreshing twist in the all familiar plot-line: the plummet down and the fight to stand back up.

If I Stay

if-i-stayAlong the same lines of fandom, I am a John Green fan. I would like to say that The Fault in our Stars moved me. It didn’t. It has been a while Hollywood, a long, long while. I cannot recall the last time a movie gave me chills. If you have not watched the trailer for If I Stay, I encourage you to watch it. At that moment, when you hear the D notes of the piano intro and Ian Axel singing those first few lines, that is the precise instant the feeling of helplessness and overall sadness takes over. Now, perhaps it is the combination of strings and piano that pull at me unexpectedly, those tones have a way of igniting deep sessions of contemplation for me. Or it could be the very fact that this a film featuring Chloë Grace Moretz, previously in Hugo and Kick-Ass. She is remarkably awesome in my book.
