Last week, both Chelse and I were looking forward to watching Guardians of the Galaxy. “I am Groot!”, needless to say, I was easily won over and I may be making some mixtapes (mix CDs?) of my own to recreate the awesome feeling the movie gave me. Let’s take a look at what is coming to theaters this weekend and if they hold the same anticipation for me as GatG did.

The Movie I’m Looking Forward To:

The Hundred-Foot Journey

THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEYAh, the foodie inside of me awakens! I imagine I will have to consume a satisfying meal before watching this movie, otherwise, I may be interrupting other movie goers with a growling originating from my stomach. Based on the trailers for The Hundred-Foot Journey, I appreciate the balance, the yin-and-yang if you will, of diversity between the prim and proper sophistication on one side, and the vivid party-ensuing liveliness on the other. Hellen Mirren is a lovely presence on screen, many of her past roles involve royalty in one aspect or another. I think it’s her poise. As much as I enjoy her performances, I appreciate seeing fresh faces and am more interested in seeing what Manish Dayal brings to the table. This movie has elements that would create an evening perfect for winding down over the weekend: a little romance, friendly competition, and a clash between cultures. To bring on the full experience, I recommend seeking out a theater that serves alcoholic beverages (Yes, they exist! And they are absolutely wonderful, absent of crying infants and temperamental middle schoolers) while the main feature plays.

The Movie I’m Not-So-Much Looking Forward To But Am Curious About:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

As with any remake, be it from a cartoon, show, or a previous movie, I have my reservations about being exposed to a newer version. Just because it’s new does not necessarily mean it’s better. I am sure all of us have experienced such instances. I’m familiar with the 2D cartoon version. From what I recall, it was decently funny, the turtles were awesome at defeating the bad guys, and it had pizza. (If you don’t like pizza, it takes me longer to like you.) The overall tone of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, seems a bit dark, mirroring the color palette from The Dark Knight. What made me a repeat viewer for the cartoons, was the personalities of each of the Ninja Turtles. Will this movie provide enough character development to grant each turtle enough screen time to fully display their uniqueness? Or will it focus on the more action sequences as we saw in the trailers? We’ll find out.
