Movies I am Looking Forward to Watching:

That Sugar Film

Every few years, one of these movies crops up with the objective of bringing awareness to healthier eating habits, Super Size Me and Food Inc. are the most recognizable titles. I’m the one audience member who finds the facts fascinating but somehow cannot resist the temptation of gelato. Maybe I’ll get there someday. The subject, Damon Gameau, undergoes an experiment, induced upon himself, to compare the effects of a typical diet, with all the hidden sugars, to a sugar-free diet. The visual effects appear in poor taste, as s shrunken Gameau travels within the body Magical School Bus-style; I’ll overlook that to find out what the outcome of the experiment is.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation

I’ve only seen the first installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. I watched it just to see where the theme song came into play. The only reason I am considering watching Rogue Nation is because I read an article somewhere that Ethan Hunt’s counterpart, Rebecca Ferguson, ends up being a “strong female lead.” Upon writing this, I realize I may have inadvertently spoiled the movie for myself. The phrase “strong female lead” has been diluted. It’s not just a woman as the focus of a movie, but how she enhances the story.

A LEGO Brickumentary

This weekend, there is a massive flood of new releases. Perhaps too many? I have memories of LEGO blocks, the awful pain of stepping on one, just one, and creating houses for my miniature Hello Kitty. When I walk through the toy aisle, as I do on occasion, the kits and models amaze me. The hundreds of pieces in various colors and shapes puts no limitation on what can be created. Then, there’s the LEGO store itself, which is dangerous to walk by and even more so to venture inside. Hogwarts Castle? A Volvo? Full-size LEGO house? All been done. LEGO is the “monster brand of the toy business” and I hope it stays that way
