Movies I am Looking Forward to Watching:

Beyond the Lights

beyond-the-lights-2

I am a little to eager to watch a film featuring Gugu Mbatha-Raw after watching her performance in Belle. But when the writer and director from Love & Basketball, Gina Prince-Bythewood, is fully involved in the development of the movie; I am absolutely drawn in further. I cannot help but think this is a recycled plot-line, The Bodyguard anyone? The parallels appear to be quite glaring for me to overlook it as an original story. But that happens. It is possible this will be the The Bodyguard of our generation, maybe not; I have not seen nor heard much vocal action coming from the leading lady in this role. Similar to Belle, Mbatha-Raw’s role is a woman who is upholds her identity and will not let others shape who she is, as well as a truthful look into the demands of the music industry.

My Prediction: B-

The Homesman

In the movie, Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank) and George Briggs (Tommy Lee Jones) team up to rescue three mentally ill women from the mistreatments of their husbands. There is a scene in which Mary Bee tells George that she thinks they make a good team; I think this is applicable to Swank and Jones’s teamwork on the movie as a whole. Similar to Beyond the Lights, we have an independent female lead who is headstrong and persistent in regards to her own personal beliefs. I’m not much of a Western kind of gal, but I have a feeling this is a different sort of Western movie

My Prediction: B

Movie I am Waiting to Watch on DVD:

Dumb and Dumber To

Yes, I want to watch Dumb and Dumber To; to appease my curiosity– can Carrey and Daniels outdo themselves? It’s one of those movies that is absolutely stupid in every which way that makes it funny. Consistently, there are laughs of disbelief and shaking heads as if to say, “What am I watching?” and “Why am I watching this?” An equinox has approached for the dim-wits. Perhaps with a few drinks in hand and Dumb and Dumber To playing on the small screen at home, I can laugh it up and relive the familiar ridiculousness.

My Prediction: D+
